Handcrafted from discarded tyres, this Stegosaurus turns a waste material into a prehistoric animal. Layered tread forms the ridged hide across the flanks and haunches, each dorsal plate is cut and shaped by hand into the double row along the spine, and the tail carries its spikes exactly where the animal wore them. The low-slung head and heavy forelimbs give it the true stance of the species rather than a cartoon of it.
At 605 kg and more than six metres from nose to tail, this is a destination piece — the kind of sculpture visitors photograph and remember. The tail and the dorsal plates are removable for transport and installation, then refitted on site.
