This is a sculpture in the shape of a machine rather than a copy of one. The front fairing is a dragon's head — jaw extended, brass crest swept back, a row of spikes running from the skull down the spine to the tail — while the rear mudguard resolves into a raised fin. Between them sits a fully modelled engine: banks of sprung cylinders, a gear-and-chain drive laid open along the lower frame, and cast rotor discs at both hubs.
The finish is the piece's second story. Polished steel is worked against warm brass on the crest, gears, hubs and cylinder heads, so the light picks out the mechanical detail rather than flattening it. At 275 cm long and 230 kg it stands on its own side stand, ready to place.
